Canada 150 Recognition Award Gala

The day following the Canada 150 Recognition Award Gala at the Marcel-Dulude Center, I felt that the event, which aimed to highlight the contribution of the citizens of the riding by their history, their values, their achievements and the impact they have on their community, has been a success all along the line.

The afternoon was rich in surprises and emotions with a written speech by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau read by Laurie-Anaïs Fournier, a video appearance of Guy Laliberté, founder of Cirque du Soleil, the performance by the Big Band Blue Dynamic from André-Laurendeau High School throughout the afternoon, and the recognition of the businesses in the riding by Mr. Marcel Aubin, President of the Mont-Saint-Bruno Chamber of Commerce.

The awards were given to those who have distinguished themselves in the categories of community services, volunteering, sport, education and art and culture. In our community, we have people who dedicate themselves daily to help others, artists whose salary is applause and professors who are models of perseverance. We have to take the time to recognize these people; they are the soul of the riding.

The 20 individuals or organizations in the most illustrious riding received the Commemorative Medal for Canada’s 150th Anniversary. Significantly, the pins were fashioned from recycled copper tiles that once formed the roof of the Parliament of Canada from 1918 to 1996.
